The preparation of solutions for catalyst synthesis is a labour intensive process. It can be divided into steps involving significantly different scale and activities.
The is a robotic workspace offering solids and liquids dispensing. The workstations employ a combination of standardized components and proprietary technology, developed in collaboration with Chemspeed.
The working area is divided into two sections, each section being equipped with a vortex shaker and heating. All of the vessels used to prepare the stock solutions are disposable and offer capping. The preparation of stock solutions for precipitation would usually require volumes between 20 to 50 ml and usually contain a single salt.
The preparation of solutions used to impregnate a catalyst support would require 1 to 3 mL of solution to prepare 1 to 3 g of catalyst by incipient wetness, or 2 to 5 ml of solution if using the excess liquid impregnation method. These solutions may contain more than one salt, and are made by mixing aliquots of different salt (stock) solutions.
